Procrastination

In my experience, lots of people claim to be procrastinators who really aren’t. This epidemic of false procrastinators makes it harder for us real-deal procrastinators to find help or a supportive community.

Seriously, procrastination seems to be one of the most talked about yet still taboo problems in our world today. Talking about how you stayed up all last night to start on a project is almost a badge of honor, but is rarely true, at least in my experience. People who have a much more severe procrastination issue can use this attitude to their advantage, talking about their stories of procrastination while others understand it as merely a joke. I myself am a serial procrastinator. I find it extremely difficult to start projects or complete them within a timely schedule. Learning

I love learning, but I’m not good at it.

It’s true! I love the idea of pouring hours into a subject and becoming better at it over time. I love knowledge and collecting information about disparate topics. I even like doing the work of learning myself. My only problem is that I may love learning too much.

I will often get the urge to learn something: sometimes because of necessity and other times simply for pleasure. I will find all the resources I can online that I can use to educate myself on the topic. At this point, I will start with the first resource, start reading/watching, and get overwhelmed. After realizing the enormity of the task before me, with hundreds of pages of information out there, I give up and stop my efforts. I think that I often expect myself to learn something that takes others their whole career in only a few hours, which in turn is a result of my desire to know about as much as I can. I find the idea of not knowing something about the world I live in deeply troubling.
